Class Descriptions

Vinyasa

Vinyasa is defined as “to move in a special way”, we try to take that definition to heart each time and bring a group of students together by moving through unique sequences. A vinyasa class can be big flowing movement on each breath or slower movements to explore depth

No class is ever the same as the students in the room are never the same. Our main focus for each class are safe alignment and encouraging each student to explore their personal yoga practice. We are thrilled to host amazing yoga classes at Yess Yoga.

Yin

This practice goes deep into our bodies and concerns itself with connective tissue, joint health, and the immune system. Yin is great for those who have stress or anxiety, want to increase flexibility, or desire time and space to drop into meditation. It is the practice of going inward into stillness and quietness to see what lies beyond muscle engagement and the busy chatter of the mind. Yin draws from traditional Chinese medicine in its approach to movement and energy, and it involves longer holds of 1-10 minutes. We use props—blankets, bolsters, and blocks—so you can be supported as you release tension. This practice is open to all people.

Restorative

The best way to describe restorative yoga is sophisticated nap time. This practice facilitates deep total body relaxation that encourages the natural healing processes that happens automatically when you move into deep rest.  A restorative yoga sequence typically involves anywhere from three to six poses, supported by props that allow you to completely relax and rest, and the poses are held anywhere from 5 to 20 minutes. Restorative poses include light twists, seated forward folds, gentle backbends and supported inversions.

Slow Flow

Sometimes it feels great to move, sweat and breathe, but a mellower vibe is in order. This vinyasa class takes things down a notch, bringing attention to transitions and creating space for final relaxation. Movements in this class will generally reduce the amount of time spent bearing weight on shoulders.  Don’t be surprised, though, if the work feels harder at a slower pace. Build body awareness and enjoy a class that provides both ample time to explore the fit of postures and movement at a more meditative pace.

Yoga Nidra

Oftentimes even when we sleep, we don’t get good rest. Our subconscious is still busy at work and we don’t fully allow ourselves to release. Just 15 minutes of deep relaxation is equivalent to 3 hours of sleep. Yoga Nidra is a practice of deep relaxation that brings one into the restful place between the waking state and the sleeping state.  Utilizing intention setting, breath awareness, body sensing, and visualization we work through our five koshas (sheaths or layers of the body) to a place of calm. When our lives contain tension, anxiety, worry and fear, this practice operates as an anchor to connect one with their true nature.

Curvy Yoga

The goal of Curvy Yoga is to provide a safe and accessible place for people of all shapes, sizes and abilities to practice yoga in a body positive and supported environment. Using creativity, props, and mindful sequencing to meet students’ unique needs, our intention is to welcome everybody to explore the practice of yoga.

Free Yoga For BIPOC

Yess Yoga is excited to announce that starting June 1, the Monday 7:30pm class will be Vinyasa for BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color), taught by Kassira Absar. These classes are for folks who identify as BIPOC to be in community while in practice—especially during a time where physically being in community can feel impossible. We recognize that moving through a world filled with microaggressions, racial trauma, and historical systems of oppression allow little room to take up space. The mat is YOUR space to TAKE UP space. The time is for you to participate in a guided practice and just be and breathe.  We look forward to having you in class!

Kundalini

Kundalini Yoga is known as the yoga for householders, it is a path for everyone who wants the skills to cope successfully with the challenges of our times. This is a dynamic, powerful tool that is designed to give you an experience of your soul.  This practice is a combination of specific kriyas (movements)  and meditation aimed at raising the kundalini (divine) energy. The practices also help prepare the practitioner physically and spiritually for the intensity of this energy. Each kundalini class begins with a chant and is followed up by a warmup for the spine. The main part of the class is the kriyas, which combine postures and breathing techniques and the practice ends with a meditation and chant.  This class is suitable for all levels.

Yoga Tantra & Meditation

Tantra is a practice of connecting with ourselves to establish a deeper connection to who we are. As we practice Tantric meditation, our confidence grows and our trust in our inner voice grows. We trust our inner healer and begin to understand that we are all healers.

The movement portion of class brings us into our body, and balances the Chakras and in Western terms, the Endocrine system. The meditation will bring us deeper within and we will also use Mantra to vibrate healing and empowering sound into each cell in our body. Class will end with a relaxing and healing sound bath, where you relax and listen to the healing sounds of mantra, singing bowls, and/or the Gong.

This class is open to all levels and body types! Beginners to yoga, meditation and mantra are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Yoga For Runners

Join us for a 60 minute Yoga for Runners sequence aiming to rejuvenate and compliment your running routine.  This class will be a low-intensity flowing practice with warm ups,  deeper stretching,  and deep relaxation at the end. All levels of runners / run-walkers / joggers are welcome!

In each class,  we will practice a combination of the following:

-Stretching hamstrings,  quads,  hip flexors
-Strengthening the core,  ankles,  low back & sacral area
-Opening / releasing the chest,  shoulders,  hips
-Focusing techniques like conscious breathwork & balances.
